넵튠스가 가진 최고 수준의 비트는 아니지만, 아무 생각 없이 흥얼거리기에 적당한 코러스 때문에 좋아했던 노래.

일하는 도중에 차 몰면서 많이 들었던 곡이기도 하다. 고객사에서 일이 잘 풀리면 사무실로 복귀하면서 흥얼거렸던 것으로 기억. ㅎㅎ

학생 신분이었을 때는 집을 나서기 전에 가장 많이 들었던 노래였으며, 직장인 신분인 현재까지도 출근 전에 제일 많이 청취하는 곡이 되었다.

빠른 드럼과 길게 늘어지는 베이스라인, 커럽 + 커럽 동생의 랩 모두 완벽했던 곡. 사람들이 [Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha] 앨범을 논할 때 "I Ain't Shit Without My Homeboyz" 위주로 언급하고 이 곡에 대한 의견은 거의 찾아볼 수가 없었던 것이 의아할 따름이다.

프레드 렉이나 대즈 딜린저의 프로듀싱도 훌륭했지만, 아직도 앨범을 들을 때 이 곡만큼 애착을 갖게 되는 곡이 없다.

지인의 권유로 문래예술공장 잠비나이 공연에 다녀왔다. 어떤 그룹인지도 잘 몰라서 유튜브에서 찾아 봤더니 국악과 일렉 기타 등을 혼용 연주하는 밴드길래 신기하구나- 하면서 가게 되었다. 생소한 장소에 붙어 있어서 스마트폰으로 갈아타지 않았으면 어디인지 찾지 못했을 뻔했다만, 스마트폰이 날 살렸다.

멤버는 세 명이고, 게스트 세션(드러머, 베이시스트)이 협연했다. 기타리스트가 기타 외에도 피리 불고 이펙터 컨트롤도 하고, 해금 연주하시는 분은 공연 후반에 트라이앵글을 연주하기도 했으며, 거문고 연주하시는 분도 다음 곡으로 넘어갈 때마다 악기를 교체하는 등 모두 부산하게 움직였다.

록 사운드와 국악 -현악+관악+타악 모두- 이 의외로 제법 잘 어울림을 알게 해준 밴드였다. 세 멤버 모두 무료 공연이라는 취지와는 무관하게 정말 열심히 연주했고, 공연에 함께 갔던 형은 그들의 매력에 심취하신 것 같았다. 확실히 참신성만큼은 인정할만한 조합이었다.

그래도 아쉬운 점을 되짚지 않을 수는 없다. 베이스와 드럼 세션에 해금, 거문고가 묻혀버리는 일이 비일비재했던 것이 가장 아쉽다. 당연히 스튜디오에서는 이런 일이 없을 테니, 곧 발매될 1집에서는 걱정할 일이 아니지만, 라이브 무대에서 매번 이렇게 묻힌다면 재고해봐야 할 문제라고 본다. 두 게스트가 퇴장한 공연 중후반부부터 현악 세션의 소리가 말끔하게 전달됐던 점을 상기한다면, 공연을 본 사람은 누구나 공감할 점이 아닌가 싶다.

기타 뿐만 아니라 다른 악기까지 동시에 연주하느라 땀을 흘리신 멤버 이일우님을 보면 잠시나마 객원 세션을 두는 건 어떨까 싶기도 했다. 속주하는데 태평소까지 부는 것 자체가 이미 불가능에 가까운 일이 아닐까... 한 손으로 기타줄 잡고 한 손으로는 다른 악기 잡다가 몇 마디 놓치는 경우가 비일비재했으니 말이다. 그런 점도 아쉽다.

여하튼 다양한 악기의 믹스가 절대로 막 만든 음악이 아닌, 참신한 음악이 될 수 있음을 증명하는 밴드임에는 분명했다. 일요일에 문래동까지 간 보람이 있었다. 조만간 발매될 1집이 좋은 결과를 얻을 수 있길 진심으로 바란다. 멋진 분들이다.

잠비나이 - 나부락

[Poison Pen] 앨범 수록곡. 요즘 꽂혀서 차량 운행할 때마다 듣는다.

한국에 치노 엑셀의 골수팬이 몇 없다는 사실이 서글프다. 이런 랩은 혼자 듣기 아깝다.

Organized Konfusion의 1집(셀프 타이틀)에서 가장 많이 들었던 곡. "Releasing Hypnotical Gases"와 "Roosevelt Franklin"도 줄기차게 듣곤 했지만, 이상하게 이 곡이 가장 끌렸다.

MC 힙합의 극을 달리는 곡이라고 할까... 그냥 러프한 비트 위에서 둘이서 죽어라 랩 하는 곡인데 가장 맘에 들었다. Organized Konfusion이라는 팀명을 짓기 이전인 Simply II Positive MC's 시절에 만든 곡 중 하나이고, 1집에 수록되었다.

그 특유의 막장삘 나는 뮤직 비디오도 좋았고, 비트는 최고였으며, El-P의 랩까지 맘에 들었었다.

당연히 [I'll Sleep When You're Dead]에서 가장 좋아했던 곡이었다.

그나저나...
일종의 대안적 힙합의 표본이 될 수 있겠다는 생각에 좋아했던 레이블이 Definitive Jux였는데,

지금은 그 의미가 많이 퇴색된 것 같아 아쉽다.

Produced by Casual. Del의 [Both Sides of the Brain] 앨범을 구입하고 나서 가장 많이 들었던 곡.

이상하게 이 앨범 이후 등장한 Del의 앨범은 큰 관심을 갖지 않았었다.
